Fill up the 3 gallon jug. Pour it into the 5 gal jug. Refill the 3 gallon jug and pour it into the 5 gallon jug until it is full, leaving 1 gallon of water in your 3 gallon jug. Then dump the five gallon jug, pour the one gallon from the 3 gallon jug into the 5 gallon jug, fill the 3 gallon jug one last time, put it into the 5 gallon jug and PRESTO! You've done it!
